TuReNut
Tumour registry: Epidemiologic evaluation of possible correlations between dietary factors and frequency of recurrences in 1000 patients each with colorectal carcinoma (CoNut), breast cancer (MaNut) or Non-Hodgkin-Lymphoma (LyNut).

Projekt description
Dietary factors are suspected to affect the emergence and the course of cancer diseases. Within the TuReNut-data capture a relationship between dietary factors and the course of cancer disease shall be assessed in more than 1,000 cancer patients with defined cancers.
PräBio
Clinical study to evaluate the affects of prebiotics on the microbiome of patients after allogenic HSCT

Project description
The intestinal flora, above all, the gut bacteria has attracted more and attention in clinical-scientific assessments. They mostly live in symbiosis with our body, protect us from pathogens, support the formation of the intestinal mucosa and help in digesting food. In numerous pre-clinical studies it could be shown that the selective intake of defined dietary fibre (prebiotics) could improve the development of body’s own bacterial flora and thus the digestive and protective functioning of the intestines. Within the PRäBio study a selected patient population with treatment related intestinal damage shall be evaluated whether prebiotics are really able to stabilize the function of the intestine and thus improve the health of the patients.
Spät-HSCT-DIETA
Survey of dietary relevant ailment patterns in patients in late phase following allogenic HSCT as basis for salutogenetically orientated dietary-medical advice concepts.

Project description
As part of the master’s thesis, it could be shown that patients in the late phase (> 1 year) after transfer of donated blood stem cells (allogenic stem cell transplantation – HSCT) exhibit a number of problems in the gastro-intestinal area. These could be differentiated in more details by means of interviews. The work offers indications for selective dietary and nutritional medical interventions to strengthen health.
PLANTIMMUN I
Evaluation on induction of plant resistance against pathogens such as Plasmopara viticola

Project description
Basis for the health promoting effects of food is their quality. In this context a very important quality feature is the content of health-promoting and the absence of detrimental components. The manner of plant protection hereby is of special significance. Especially interesting in this context are current evaluations which prove that by targeted activation of natural mechanisms of resistance the strength of defence of the plants against potential pathogens is heightened as well as the content of health promoting bioactive ingredients can be increased. Within this project it could be proven that novel, submicron particles modified with biological ingredients are able to activate the mechanisms of resistance of the vine in such a way that a long-lasting strengthening of defence mechanisms against the fungi Peronospora viticola could be induced.
